The term Zol Barbie was coined over a decade ago when a female SAPS officer strip-searched a group of my girlfriends outside a club in Johannesburg. Hidden amongst the pockets of my (sparkly) outfit she found a few pre-rolled joints and proudly exclaimed, "Kyk nou vir klein Zol Barbie hierso!"

Over the years the intended insult became both my nickname and a term of endearment amongst my group of friends. In essence, any female cannabis consumer was labelled a 'Zol Barbie':
